Figure Heights in Custom Workstation by 9r1441n
Sunday, February 9, 2020
   [Edit]
Is there a database somewhere that lists the heights of action figures?
I'm working on some customs right in between 5.5" and 6" and thought I'd be safe with anything listed as 6" scale, but a lot of these figures are stretching closer to 7". It doesn't sound like much, but it's really noticeable when you started with a doll just shy of 6".
I don't have a specific line in mind (I started with superheroes but am now looking at WWE females) so any info is greatly appreciated....[See More]

Nothing I'm currently aware of, unfortunately. It can get rather frustrating when basically any figure between 5" to 7" is listed as 6", been a few times I've run across a "6 in" figure online which had just the parts I wanted for a custom, only for it to be either too small or too big for what I was working on.
Sea King in Custom Workstation by TomatoisJP
Thursday, February 6, 2020
   [Edit]
So I'm slowly upgrading my JLA/CSA shelf over to the forever evil line, just for the variety of characters. However, I'd also like to do a Sea King as part of it, which is a little tougher.

My intent is to use one of the Essentials Aquaman figures as a base (I'm hoping to get the DCeased figure on the cheap down the line) with bits from an Aquaman movie figure, including a Momoa head if I can find one with decent sculpt. However, I'm not sure how to do the armored left arm. I suppose I could sand/sculpt lines into one of his arms, but I'm wondering if anyone here knows how well the joints work with ML or MS parts in case I can save time with a colossus figure....[See More]
Files for custom parts? in Custom Workstation by figpainter

   [Edit]
Hey everyone- I'm new to the forums here and I have a question. I have two friends that have gotten 3D printers and both have sId they'd be happy to print things for me like heads, accessories, and such, but I don't know where to find the files. Can anyone help me with this? Someone has told me thingiverse, but I don't know how to navigate it. I'd really appreciate any help here. Thanks!!!...[See More]

Thanks. Now for the really dumb question. Say I want a head for a Johnny Thunder action figure. I'm pretty sure I can't put in "Johnny Thunder action figure head" in the search bar. How would you recommend wording the search. I could use any number of generic heads for someone like him, but when I try "action figure heads" I rarely actually GET action figure heads. Sorry to be such a noob, but I've never had this option before in all the years I've been customizing.

You really don't need the "action figure" portion of your search. If your friends know any thing about printing, they should be able to splice and resize any model into the size you need.

For example, I wanted a Batman Who Laughs head, so I got a model bust, spliced the head from the model, resized, and then printed.

Just send them a link to whatever you want to download so they can see if they can print it.

Yeggi.com is a search engine that searches a few popular sites for models.
Airbrush suggestions? in Custom Workstation by MercMouth Customs

I'm thinking of upgrading to an airbrush kit for customs. Does anyone have recommendations for kits or what types/brands of paint I should use?...[See More]

Here are the main reasons to get an airbrush for action figures:

•For basecoating large areas
•For painting light colors...over large areas
•For shading ...

Make the paints work for you. I've been airbrushing now for quite a while and I can tell you honestly it's a work of art. You can find a wealth of knowledge about airbrushing with what you've already got on YouTube University. I currently own two different brands and types of airbrushes and I've tried multiple different air compressors, and I'll be honest, spend the money on the quality stuff because it will save you a huge headache later.
I want to make the Batman Werebat in Custom Workstation by Dinoburp
Wednesday, January 22, 2020
   [Edit]
Hi! After getting the World's Finest Superman with the lion head, I'm wanting to put together a troupe of transformed heroes. I'd really like the Were-Bat from World's Finest #258, but they never released a figure.
I know I could get ManBat and go from there, but that would involve creating the whole Bat suit over him. What I'm planning is to get the Vampire Batman and sculpt big bat ears and some fur. What I'd like to know is, has anybody done this, or do you know what hands and feet would work for this? Thanks all, I've been lurking on here for almost a year, but just made an account....[See More]
Looking for a commission in Custom Workstation by Bizarrotron
Wednesday, January 1, 2020
   [Edit]
Hello! I'm looking to discuss what I hope is a relatively simple custom, just way way way beyond any skill I might have.

I'd like to get a vintage MOTU figure customized to look like the best man at my wedding. If this sounds like something you might undertake I'd love to hear from you!...[See More]

Exactly! Sculpt or modify an existing head. I think Fisto could serve as a basis. There are a number of additional things I'd love to do to make it a complete package. I'm testing the waters to see just how possible this idea is.

Get in touch with LuvNidleness. He does custom headsculpts, and has a wide array of work to look at on his facebook. Check him out, I'm planning to have him do some heads for me pretty soon.

Custom Help needed in Custom Workstation by manomight1974
Tuesday, November 26, 2019
   [Edit]
Hey guys. I'm trying to finish off my custom Batman, Jr. figure from the classic Saga of the Super-Sons stories of the 1970's and I need a slight assist with color. I am using a Mattel DC Batman Legacy Golden Age Batman body with a modded DC Multiverse Dick Grayson Batman head, but I need to find a shade of blue for the head that matches the blue on the GA Batman. I only use Acrylic paint for my customs, so if any one has a suggestion on what shade of blue and brand of paint I should use, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Chris...[See More]

I use the Vallejo color charts as well. It might be my eyes, but I find that the colors tend to be a tad lighter than what is shown on the chart. This could probably be countered with priming in black but I prime in gray generally.

Reaper used to have a power palette on their site that as a color matching tool. There is also someone that developed an app but I don't have the time to get it up and running. You have to import the color charts I believe. It is located here:

Try browsing Vallejo's website, they list all the colors they have there.

Model Color and Game Color are for handpainting, the Air versions are for airbrushing. ...

I think as of now there are only like 2 to 3 Regulators that have the ability to mess with the Custom Showcase: Me, possibly another guy, and Captain Coder (the admin) himself.

I've been very hands off for months now. I'm not happy with the state of the site and don't feel like expending a bunch of energy on it like I used to. If the site ever got a "modern makeover" maybe I'd care more.

Cap lets a bunch of stuff slide, you can find Nazis and boobies in the Showcase, I think he knows the difference between pornography/malicious imagery/whatever and a custom figure meant as art. ...
