How to attach pin joint legs to ball joint crotch? in Custom Workstation by Lizardman
Thursday, August 15, 2019
   [Edit]
Here's a picture
[Picture]

They're Evangelion legs and they'll look great on the Marvel Legends custom I'm making, but I'm not sure the best way to attach. If I dremel into the leg to make ball joint hole, ill have to cut from the top of the leg so it can fit onto the crotch. I thought about using wire to wrap the ball and slide into the leg hole, then I guess clay around it, but don't know if that's dumb.

Anybody have any pertinent experience? Thanks a ton!...[See More]

Is the leg plastic hard or soft?

Yknow, I didn't have notifications set for this site and I only get on here every once in a while, so I never even saw this. I wound up getting another Beetle cheap and cutting the legs high above the knee to match the angle of the new legs. You can see what it turned into on my profile.
Do I owe you a custom? in Custom Workstation by Henchmen4Hire
Tuesday, October 1, 2019
   [Edit]
I get the feeling I owe someone (cripes, I hope it isn't multiple people!) a custom because I found a box of project parts and can't remember who it was for. I probably got distracted and forgot about them, oof.

Massive apologies! Please message me if I owe you stuff to get things resolved, thank you....[See More]

Resin 3D printing for action figures in Custom Workstation by Henchmen4Hire
Monday, October 7, 2019
   [Edit]
Finally we're at a point where high-quality 3D printing is easily affordable and accessible to everyone. The only thing holding us back from printing everything our heart desires is the lack of 3D models themselves. That's where you come in!

I recently bought a resin 3D printer and have been experimenting with it. I'm blown away by the quality of the prints and started making my own models to make customizing easier. So far I've made accessories for 6 inch Clone Troopers / Star Wars figures and am selling them on my Etsy shop.

I'm not out to end traditional casting, there will always be a place for that. 3D prints have significant advantages however. No giant mold lines, easily resizable prin...[See More]

The scroll is a model by a borderlands fan, I just rescaled it.

Asajj Ventress head was a crappy low poly model, I used it as a jumping off point to make something printable. I think I'll open the eyes a little more. ...

I wrote something about Zephyr a while ago https://www.figurerealm.com/topic?topicid=10292

Zephyr doesn't work for small detailed things because the meshes it produces are low quality, really bumpy. It relies on the texture (the images) to give the illusion of detail. So like if you took pictures of a rock or a car, it wouldn't reproduce all the grooves, cracks, panel lines, bolts, rims, etc. You wouldn't get smooth surfaces either.

Your best chance is to use a 3D laser scanner, but good luck finding one to borrow, and finding someone to make the mesh useful for printing at all haha. ...

I think as of now there are only like 2 to 3 Regulators that have the ability to mess with the Custom Showcase: Me, possibly another guy, and Captain Coder (the admin) himself.

I've been very hands off for months now. I'm not happy with the state of the site and don't feel like expending a bunch of energy on it like I used to. If the site ever got a "modern makeover" maybe I'd care more.

Cap lets a bunch of stuff slide, you can find Nazis and boobies in the Showcase, I think he knows the difference between pornography/malicious imagery/whatever and a custom figure meant as art. ...

Have you tried to appeal? Henchmen4Hire is one of the mods, he might be able to help you. In the past FigureRealm has been okay with customs of Hitler and organizations like Antifa, so there's no precedent for this to my knowledge.

When you say artwork, did you show a drawing or an actual custom?

There are violent looking customs, like the horror doll with, looks like stabs wounds on it. Risque images of other customs like Shanna The She devil. WTH? And yet some one got offended with my custom of the legendary Josephine Baker? Do they even know who she was? This was tastefully done. Man I don't get what this site expects. The images and Violent history of the other people's characters/customs are acceptable and yet my custom of a legendary entertainer wearing her famous costume is rejected.

Storage help in Custom Workstation by Jurassicjennie

   [Edit]

Hi, I’m after advice on how best to store custom figures when they aren’t out for display. I don’t want to risk storing something and coming back to it at a later date to find the paint has become stuck to whatever i store it in, or turned sticky. My figures are mostly customised with the usual model acrylic paints and some matte varnish.
Thanks...[See More]

I have a lot of customs in storage and they look as good as when I put them in there. I just put them in sturdy sandwich bags with a little air trapped inside to act as a cushion so they aren't crushed if something lays on them.

Don't use plastic wrap, that stuff can cling to paint so well that when you peel it off it'll tear the paint off with it.

Great thanks, that was my current solution, glad to know my figures should last in them. I’m aware certain plastic bags can make old figures go sticky so I’ll stick with the same bags I use for vintage, with some added air!
Removing feet from All-Father Scarlet Witch in Custom Workstation by Aragogo
Tuesday, October 8, 2019
   [Edit]
Hey guys! Hope y'all can shed some light on my situation.

I want to use my old All-Father Scarlet Witch (the one with the heels) for a custom figure, but unfortunately I can't disassemble her legs/feet. I tried heating up the joints multiple times, but what happens is that the joint itself threatens to come loose and stretches out of the leg socket before the peg even comes out of the feet. I've had that problem with the rest of the figure too (removing her arms from her upper torso) but it hasn't been nearly as bad as this. When I heat it up, I'm worried I'll pull the whole joint out of the leg before I pull the peg from the foot.

Am I doing something wrong? Maybe a wrong angle?...[See More]

Right? Toy companies have no problem using narrower heads to make interchangeable body parts, the joints stay sturdy, so I don't understand why they don't do that with every peg, instead of doing weird sh*t like super narrow shafts with giant heads on the pegs.

Anyway, I had the same problem removing the feet of that Witch fig, the ankle pegs stretched but at least they didn't break.

You will need to brace the ankle joint at the end of the leg. A small pair of craft pliers should work. You will also need to get the figure good and hot. After that, you should be good.

The brace method worked on one foot. The other snapped the peg out entirely - I assume because I already tried to pull it out multiple times before so it just gave out now.

And holy frick that peg is huge - what was Hasbro thinking??

One overlooked gal is the Skrull Princess Anelle. Have wanted to attempt her for years, but my skills hardly match my ambition (with a custom nobody's attempted yet). Minimal experience with Apoxie (My stash is dryig up. Mfgr suggests preheating in sunlight.) Better with paint. I'm looking for suggestions on a close 5-6" base figure that I won't get frustrated with.... Except for the angry face, dress is a bit similar to Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe (too small?) Mystique. Complete repaint though. Very open to any ideas. Keeping it simple. - Bob...[See More]

How do companies print onto action figures? in Custom Workstation by Juggernaut Customs
Saturday, August 31, 2019
   [Edit]
Hello All!

I thought this would be an easy question to Google.

“How can I print onto action figures?”
Turns out, I can’t find it anywhere.

Kudos to anyone that can find the answer to this! This could take customizing to the next level! If you can afford it.

Searched everywhere and maybe I’m just using the wrong terminology. All I come up with our endless results for 3-D printing. But I do not want to 3-D print. I want to know how to take an existing action figure, print onto the figure instead of having to paint it, and it turns out, I can’t find it.

I understand it would require a special printer that would likely be incredibly unaffordable. But I would still like to know just for the knowledge side and who knows, maybe one day ge...[See More]

For detailed small logo, fonts, graphics patterns on action figure you may try decal sheet printed with colored laser printer or desktop that uses waterproof pigment ink. Cut the printed image, soaked in water and apply it on the part of the action figure. Apply glossy or Matt top clear to protect it.😀
