Action Figure on eBay
For example if a figures hand joint snaps I heat the arm wrist socket, pop the broken bit out, find a suitable replacement in my fodder bin, slice off the bottom of the hand piece (not just the plug or joint piece that goes into the arm as that will just snap again, you need a bit of the bottom of the hand you take the joint from to remain). Then I attach the joint piece and the hand with super glue and that's it really, I light make the hand shorter to go with the new bottom part before popping it back into its socket (It's complicated to explain). In essence you could use a swivel joint piece (a point of articulation that rotates 360• as in a full circle but no other movement like the swivel of a boot on any Lotr figure) and insert that into the neck area of the body and make it part of the neck for that movement. Can't be of much more help I'm afraid, but hope this helps.
How much would it cost you to make 2 Helmets for the Moria Cave Trolls Sir Deaditor..!!
I very much prefer the design where the helmet sits on top of the head like the Battle Troll Helmet..This helmet looks really awesome on the Moria Cave Trolls head however it just needs a little bit of tweeking in the making of, to accommodate the wider face of the Moria Cave Troll..!!
I do like the helmet u made for your Battle Troll with the Mordor Troll look with the side of face protection, but I don't want it permanently attached to his face/head..
If you could design a Helmet that can be removed when required then I would get both from you..!!
The helmets would have to be sculpted using the Moria Cave Trolls head..Do you have one of these in your collection..!!!
I would probably get 2 of each (Battle Troll Style and Mordor Troll style) as I want to buy 2 more Cave Trolls, then I would have 4 big mean ugly bastards in my Army...
I have been chatting a bit with LOTR Customs via IM messages and maybe one day ( after watching lots of YouTube videos ) I might have a crack at making a Silicone Mould and then make a cast out of Foam, Fibreglass or Plastic and make a heap of helmets up myself..
I already have a Battle Troll helmet to make copies of..Can you help me with design tips on making the Silicone Moulds..!! or should I use a different material for the Mould, and the best type of Cast material to pour into it to actually make the helmet..!!
Cheers Deaditor
I have 2 loose Moria Cave Trolls and I want to make helmets for these guys..I think the helmet you made would definitely need tweeking to customise it to fit the Head shape of my Moria Cave trolls..
These guys have softish rubber heads as they growl and the jaw opens and the rubber head is prone to cracking and perishing ie bits falling off his face, so I need to be very careful..
Any help would be appreciated..Cheers
I'll have to Google where I can get this stuff from here in Australia..!!
I'm also now thinking..!!..I actually have a loose Battle Troll complete with his Helmet, how could I do a mould of his helmet to make more helmets..??
These helmets look cool on the Moria Cave Trolls head, actually I reckon they look better on this Cave Trolls head compared to the Battle Troll which it belongs too.
However the helmet needs some tweeking to make it slightly wider and bigger to fit properly on his head..!!
Sorry for this laboriously long explination, I really hope this helps.
I think for the electronic cave troll (I have one myself I know it suffers from cracking) I would wrap the head in cling film, then take a thin layer of miliput and essentially make a cap like a hair line almost, then when that dries build layer by layer (starting from the back to front as the helmet armour builds on top of each bit) each shard of the helmet (of which there are 3 sections of spikes with 3 fins or 5 on each, use google images etc for research before you begin sculpting). I would also recomment checking out Glenn Webb and searching for his tutorials. He was an outstanding British customiser and was so talanted and so his video's can be very helpful. I don't know much about casting, most of my customising knowledge comes from years of Design and Technology at school, where I could have casted something but not now as I no longer go to school being a University Student) as well as from childhood starting from just simple repairs with superglue to painting and mixing heads from star wars figures or re painting them if they lacked detail etc.
Good luck Battle Hardened! I look forward to your results!
What about the option of using an existing Battle Troll Helmet to go about making a mould to produce more helmets..
This sounds like a better option for me as I would probably make 4 or 5 helmets.
What would I use to do this please Deaditor and/or DrNightmare..Cheers
Liquid Latex is cheap and easily accessible. Alternately you can use expensive stuff like silicone rubber, urethane rubber, etc. Probably easier that way.
After you have the mold, you'll need some flexible casting rubber so the cast helmet can slip on the figure's head without damaging it. Since you're making a thin helmet, you're essentially slush casting, meaning you pour a little casting rubber in there and slosh it around so it hardens into a thin shell.
It's a straightforward process, especially once you have all the necessary materials figured out, but damn it's expensive lol. I think it's better (meaning incredibly cheaper) if you just sculpt all the helmets, makes them more authentic anyway if they all look a little different.
I don't cook at home..LOL
Which type of Sculpey Clay do you use for your helmets as their are so many different types available..ie Sculpey 111, Premo, Souffle, Original,etc..!!
The Sculpey Souffle looks interesting, Sculpey Ultralight might work too.
Can you please tell me what other accessories you have to sell or trade please..I am assuming these are accessories for the 6 inch Toybiz line of figures so I am chasing Helmets, swords, knives, shields, any other weapons and cloth capes..I would also be interested in good condition figures but depends which ones u have, as I have a large collection already.
I haven't had time to look at your profile so not sure what you collect or wish to trade but let me know about this anyway please..
Please note I don't customise figures just collect...Cheers mate
I also got a Goblin Base that comes from the Sam Gamgee pack and I also got Aragorns big shield from the Council of Rivendell figure..Really stoked to get these accessories.
So often accessories are way too expensive to buy off Ebay.
Is there anybody out there who wants to sell their accessories or knows where I could buy some from..!!!
Check out the LOTR Customs by "Firefly" his stuff is brilliant..!!
and If you haven't listed them yet, please send me info..Cheers Bud
But the things that you tend to need when buying inbilk are helmets or shields as they often are missing form joblots. For my Eowyn I wanted a Rohan shield but ended up making one from a Borromir one turned inside out.
Can you make me some Troll helmets Deadtor..!!
