Action Figure Circa 350 BC in Identify Help by Patraw
Saturday, August 24, 2013
   [Edit]
I checked out a couple of books on dolls from the local library recently, and both featured the same photo of this Greek articulated figure from 350 BC, which is probably made from clay:

[Picture]

While I knew there were dolls back then, I was surprised that they had moving parts (knees, but no hips, strikes me as a particularly odd design choice), as I thought that was a more recent evolution in toy design. Also, interestingly, when a Greek girl was to be wed (and I do mean girl, they were often married off in their very early teens), she traditionally "sacrificed" dolls like this one, and other childhood playthings, to the goddess Artemis....[See More]

That's cool--I wonder if the dog would have had a string tied to it, so that a child could pull it along, or if was just meant to be pushed by hand. I didn't know the Aztecs had jointed dolls too, I'll have to check it out.

I've seen that picture also, if you look through some books on the Aztecs they had jointed dolls on occasion to my favorite being a dog with wheels on it's feet so that you can roll it. I'll try to find a picture of it for you,
Identification help? in Identify Help by Patraw
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
   [Edit]
As I am won't to do, I picked up a big bag of girls toys from a thrift store on Friday. I've been able to identify most of the items on my own, but there are several that still have me scratching my head, and I was hoping perhaps one of you could help. I realize most of you probably don't buy girls toys, but perhaps a sister/cousin/daughter/etc. had them.

Anybody know what the larger doll on the far left is? She was made by Mattel in 2008 and is about 7-8 inches tall (depending on whether or not you're counting her hair or not). You can't see it in the photo, but there's a rubbery transparent plastic rod projecting out of her back, that...[See More]

That's a cool idea, but I don't have, or want, a Facebook account, so I don't think I can participate without being registered. By the way, that orange creature you can't identify in the photo on said Facebook page is from Scooby Doo, it's the 10,000 Volt Ghost.

Okay, I finally figured out what that first doll is: She's a Barbie Blooming Thumbelina (African American version). I was also correct that she's missing her wings (maybe I'll make her some...) She originally came with this huge flower base thing that would "bloom" with a push of a button, revealing the doll.

And the woman in pink and yellow is Lila, from Polly Pocket. She's supposed to come with a wind surfer vehicle and some stickers.

Still no luck on figuring out what that rabbit is though...

   [Edit]
I have a bunch of pokedexes for a friend's kid but only 2 of them have manuals. Does anyone have manuals they could scan for me or point me to where to get them online? Oddly enough I found the manual online for the dex that goes for 200.00 but not any of the others I need....[See More]

I have instructions for 2 of the 4 I got her. It was mostly to save her mom and dad the headache of trying to figure out what everything does. Though they're aimed at kids so it should be pretty straight forward.

I'm going to guess my original pokedex isn't worth a quarter of $200. I don't have the manual for it either, are you having trouble with one or do you just want the completion of have the instructions?

Lafcadio Hearn's examination of classical Japanese toys in Identify Help by Patraw
Wednesday, April 24, 2013
   [Edit]
I've been reading 'Glimpses of an Unfamiliar Japan', by Lafcadio Hearn, which was written in the late 1800s, and came upon three sections in Chapter 11 that deal specifically with Japanese toys of that time period, and legends associated with them, which I found interesting and thought I'd share. Who knows, maybe his words will inspire you with an idea for a custom toy of your own.

Chapter 11, Sec. 9

Vast as the courts of the Oho-yashiro are, the crowd within them is now
so dense that one must move very slowly, for the whole population of
Kitzuki and its environs has been attracted here by the matsuri. All are
making their way very gently toward a little shrine built upon an island
in the middle of an artificial lake and approached by a ...[See More]
Need help identifying an action figure in Identify Help by Caifanes
Sunday, April 14, 2013
   [Edit]
Hello everyone, I use to have an action figure that look like a demon/devil black in color had horns (think batman style just longer) and seemed to be of great quality as it had good detail and material. If it helps it was mostly black with dorm black that was opaque. Any help will be greatly appreciated...[See More]

Sadly it not it vita great toy nonetheless. The action figure is 6" inch and has the same articulation as the one you posted. I think it must have been made between 1994-2003 if that helps. And I does look a little like the action figure you posted

Do you recall what scale it was (3-3/4", 6", 12", etc.)? I assume, since you're familiar with Batman, it's not the Demon Batman variant from Batman Begins. General Spidrax from Sectuars perhaps?

Need help IDing a Marvel figure in Identify Help by Xem
Monday, March 11, 2013
   [Edit]
All I have is a description from a friend that saw it in a bulk toy bin with no package. She was going to buy it, but someone picked it up before she could come back. She says she's certain it said Marvel on the foot, but doesn't remember if there was a brand and/or date.

The character had brown hair, a pony tail and bangs, cheerleader outfit, nearly no articulation, and she thinks a letter R on the outfit. It also came with a larger male figure wearing a baseball cap and had huge feet.

I'm not 100% sure if it's an older figure, but she said that it looked like it probably was. Sorry for vagueness, but that's all I've got. ):...[See More]

Sounds like the girl from that Legendary Comic Heroes 2-pack that came with Clownface. I forget her name, but if you look up Clownface 2-pack you should be able to find her on google.
