We got made-up outfits for existing characters (like Space Usagi and Samurai Michelangelo), a character from post-series material (Dark Leonardo from the IDW Saturday Morning Adventures comics), a character that wasn't in the show (Panda Khan), and now robotic versions of characters. Bebop and Rocksteady's robotic doppelgängers were released as part of Target's first Haulathon, and the latest event gives Tokka and Rahzar the cybernetic treatment. The pair here were designed by Sylvain Plantier, a.k.a. SNZ Toys, and sculpted by Tomasz Rozejowski (with Jay Kushwara tooling articulation, I believe). Their designs are based more off the Robotic Bebop and Rocksteady figures from the original TMNT toyline rather than Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady from the show, and for something entirely new, these are pretty cool designs. Robo Tokka in particular has a blocky-looking head, alongside a red scalp and eyes and jagged "teeth." There's a hinged jaw on both figures, and they blend in very well with their designs, though Tokka's works better due to it not touching his chest like Rahzar's. At about 5 1/2" tall, Robo Tokka bears great resemblance to his organic counterpart, right down to having a foot-like symbol on his belt and spikes on his shell, shoulder pads, and kneepads. His shoulder pads are not only made from a softer material, but can also lift up to let the shoulders go out all the way. The dual missiles on his back are unique, being reminiscent of the shoulder guns from the old Robotic B&R figures, and they can be removed as well. Tokka is primarily light and dark shades of gray, with red, green, and yellow areas, and the paint is very clean, with very little bleed or slop. Rahzar, much like Tokka, makes what was armor on the regular version part of the robot's body, including making his shoulder pads turret guns and implementing spikes on his thighs. His forearms are more asymmetrical than Tokka's, with the right being boxy and the left being rounder with spikes. His head has a big brow that also makes up his "ears," and an underbite that covers his upper "teeth." As I mentioned before, his jaw is hinged, but it comes into contact with the chest too much to really be useful, so it's a good thing his head has plenty of range. Robo Rahzar stands about 7 1/4" tall and has the same colors as Tokka, though with blue instead of green, and the paint is about as good, but he suffers a little more from bleed and slop, such as a small red mark on the side of his head. The '87 line has had great articulation as of late, but these two don't have as much motion. Both figures get a barbell head and chest (Rahzar) or waist (Tokka), swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, and again, hinged jaws. They have some unique joints, as Tokka has hinged shoulder pads and forearm swivels, while Rahzar has shoulder pads that rotate a bit, and kneepads that can move up to hide the joint when the knees are bent. The bulky designs tend to hinder movement a bit, especially on Rahzar, whose shoulders can barely go out to the side. On the bright side, everything moved with ease, with only one of the extra hands needing heat. There aren’t a lot of accessories with this set, but they came up with some unique items. There are extra hands, of course, so you have pairs of closed, gripping, and grasping hands for each of them, and they swap with no issues. Their weapons include a "cyber saber" and a "mecha mace," which fit the aesthetic of the duo well, and it doesn't take too much work getting them into their gripping hands. On the sillier side is a cereal bowl filled with nuts and bolts, and a microchip with a bite taken out of it. Hey, even a robot's gotta have something to eat. Again, there are fewer accessories than we usually get with these two-packs, but they're very fitting to the characters. It's cool that NECA is allowed to come up with stuff not seen in the source material for this line, but this set may be a bit of a harder sell. The articulation is somewhat limited, there are few accessories, and it doesn't help that the price went up again, now being $70. This set is showing up on EE and BBTS, so there's a chance this line isn't Target-exclusive anymore, which could no doubt be a good thing. While I wouldn't recommend this set for more casual fans or non-completionists, it's still pretty neat. - 5/7/26 by Toasted Brains![]() |
