Shredder Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) (Neca)Although it's been going at a slower pace than the other lines, NECA's TMNT Adventures line has proven just as strong. It's given us more than a couple of unique characters and designs, a good chunk of which never got figures before, and the great quality and work put into them certainly help. The latest release is Shredder himself, because the big bad had to join the line sometime, and although he's Walmart-only for right now, he's very easy to find in-store. Since the Archie TMNT comic was adapted from the animated show running at the time, most of the existing characters' designs weren't changed all that much for it. Shredder's build is the same as the toon, but the colors are different. His helmet is white, and the mask is blue, both with painted comic-like shine on them. The lines on the helmet are clean, save for a feint mark on the back. The eyes look great, especially considering how hard it would be to paint such little areas. At 7" tall, this Shredder, despite his heavy toon resemblance, doesn't use the same sculpt that one did. Tomasz Rozejowski did the new Shred-head, and this body is a lot bulkier, and generally more touched-up (though I'll wait to cover the new toon Shredder for a better comparison). The Archie design has a few unique details, such as the wider loincloth belt wrapped around his waist, covering his abdomen, and different shin guards. The colors are the main difference, as Shredder has mostly blue clothes, including sleeves, and white armor pieces and boots. The cape is still purple, and is still cloth. The colors all over are bold, and the lines are clean, but there are a few small marks that are a bit off-putting to me. NECA has already made plenty of well-articulated Shredders, but this one feels the best out of all of them. Saki has a barbell head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and ankles, ball-jointed hips, double-hinged elbows and knees, and swivel biceps, forearms, waist, thighs, and shins. All of the joints move great, and they blend in with the sculpt well. I couldn't even tell he had forearm joints at first, that's how well they're hidden. The elbows and knees are pinless joints like the Wrestling Turtles, making for a more seamless appearance, but a presumed consequence of that is a somewhat loose hinge below the right kneecap, thankfully not enough to impact posing. I would've loved toe hinges like the Mirage and earlier Toon Shredders, but the level of poseability here is still great. The Shredder portrait discussed above isn't actually his main portrait, but rather Krang. In Issue #25, "Raw Power," Krang took over Shredder's body to make himself a more formidable opponent against the Turtles (he lost). We already got a Krang with Bellybomb, but this one is a different sculpt, with a different art style to match, but he looks just as good. He again has ball-jointed tentacles, allowing you to do a few things with them. I didn't need heat to swap the heads, but it would be recommended anyways, as the Shredder portrait is a tight fit. Shredder and Krang also come with a bonsai tree and bladed staff, coming from both Raw Power and "Gimme Danger!" (Issue #24), as well as four sets of hands: fists, fists with blades, open, and vertically-hinged grips. The hands swapped with no issue, and they work great with the other accessories. NECA has done plenty of Shredder figures, but this may just be my favorite one they did. Yes, I got the new Toon Shredder, which is a bit like this one, but I enjoy the look and extras of the Archie version more. The other figures revealed so far look just as fun, and they recently announced a regular April is coming to the line alongside her "fifth turtle" version, but I just hope they can pick up the pace a bit with this line. - 4/9/25 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
