Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas (Neca)) Review
Sally
Nightmare Before Christmas (Neca) (Neca)Although Jack Skellington is the face of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sally is the film's other main character and has been merchandised just as much as him. She was the first alongside him to be revealed when NECA announced a return to NBX figures, and while it wasn't the only figure released last year (or at least close to the end of it) with Super7's own Ultimate figure, we all know NECA is the better deal.

As a living ragdoll, Sally looks more human-like than anyone else in Halloweentown, but not exactly flesh-like. Her skin is a light blue-green, somewhat like a zombie, and there are also stitches all over her. The face has a big stitch line running down the side of her face, alongside stitches on the side of her lips, and even her eyelashes somewhat resemble stitches. The likeness and recreation of Sally's movie model is much better here than NECA's first figure from 2004, thanks to the same people behind Jack (Kyle Windrix, Marty Henley, and Andrew Lawson), and her long hair is a softer material, so that it doesn't get in the way of head movement.

Sally isn't as expressive as Jack, but she does have a couple of different faces, although handled as swappable face plates rather than heads due to the long hair. She has a neutral smile by default, but there are also a happy face looking off to the right, a worried face looking off to the left, a sad face, and an upset face. The faces swap with ease, but you won't have to worry about them coming off too easily. The paint on the skin and body is clean, including areas of blue wash to bring out the look a bit, though the paint on the eyes seems a little rough. There's no slop or bleed with them, but they feel a little bumpy.

Sally is a little bigger than a female figure in 1/10 scale is usually expected to be at 7", but it puts her in good scale with Jack. Befitting her stitched-together body, her dress has a patchwork appearance, with various colors and patterns. The faded, fall-themed colors are more accurate to the film than some of the other merch and promo art we've seen of her, and the paint is good for the most part, but most of the lines don't match up with the sculpt, and the upper part of the arms underneath the sleeves aren't painted. The dress is split in half at the midsection, with both parts being pieces of a rubbery material over the torso. Her articulation is a bit more than Jack, with ball-jointed head and neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, and knees, ball-jointed hips, barbell chest and ankles, and swivel biceps and thighs. The use of softer material for certain parts is beneficial to movement, but the legs still can't do much due to the long dress.

Much of Sally's accessories are lifted/recreated from her 2004 figure, and there sure is plenty. She has a basket, now beige instead of orange, and some smaller items to fit inside, including a fishbone on a plate, a spoon (now metal instead of wooden), salt and pepper bottles, a green glass bottle, and a jar of Deadly Night Shade. That's everything but the little blanket, and they all can fit inside the basket. She has a pair of gripping hands to go along with the open ones, allowing her to hold the smaller accessories. The jack-in-the-box is similar to the one Jack has, but with a cat head instead of a pumpkin, and the head, base of the spring, and handle all move. Also here are a pumpkin with small facial features, a black cat with joints for the head and tail, and a clear stand, the same one as Jack. Tiny feet and high heels unsurprisingly make it hard for her to stand up, so the base is definitely useful.

NECA did a great job recreating Sally to meet their customers' current standards, with almost everything she had before, in addition to swappable parts for more looks, more articulation, and presumably better quality control. You could get Jack by himself and be satisfied there, but you'll want to get Sally too to complete the couple. It's almost like she was made for him.
