Serpent Hunter (Predators) Review
Serpent Hunter
Predators (Neca)A mostly faithful recreation of the Serpent Hunter Predator from the Aliens vs Predator 2010 video game. This was somewhat of a surprise release given this Predator isn't a main character in the game and is kind of obscure. It was a dream figure for me at the time of release just due to the Serpent Hunter mask alone.

It uses the AVP (2004) Predator style body, which is easily one of NECA's best Predator sculpts given it's articulation, height, and just overall look. This figure has a few unique parts from the others. Aside from the unique masked head, it has unique dual wristblade gauntlets with retractable blades. The left gauntlet also has an opening wrist computer. The belt/skirt are unique as are the lower legs. The figure can hold a lot of cool poses, but part of the skirt can get in the way and tear if too much pressure is applied. This is not too bad given the parts that tear are just tiny straps that are barely noticeable, but it is something to note. The figure includes a few accessories, a backpack/shoulder cannon which has a plug in area for the mask wires (very hard to get them in and keep them in though), a shuriken, a dagger, and alternate grasping hands. It's also compatible with the other hands from previous AVP (2004) mold releases.

I'd bought multiple copies of this figure for customs, and found some consistant issues with it. The main one is most of them have a chipped tooth on the mask. At the time of release, NECA was giving out pristine ones, but since that was a long time ago, it's much harder to find a pristine head now. The legs also tend to be very loose at the hips and may need some tightening with floor or joint polish(I'd personally suggest Kiki's Fix Loose Joints for action figures).

I do have a few issues with inaccuracies. The mask sculpt is good, but it's not quite accurate to the game. It is not bad, just not perfect, but this is mainly me nitpicking. The hands also lack the gloves the Predators wore in the games, the wristblades aren't quite accurate, nor is the shoulder cannon, but again this is all me nitpicking. I do wish it had included the unique buzz saw-like smart disc from the game rather than the shuriken, but I feel lucky NECA made the figure at all, so I can't complain too much.

Overall I'd recommend this figure if you can find it at a decent price in the aftermarket. These days they usually cost $200-$300 which is a bit much for a 7" scale NECA figure, but it is a very cool and unique NECA Predator to own. If you really want one, I suggest shopping around and doing some waiting to find one that's at a price you find to be acceptable, though finding one under $200 can be difficult.
