Quicksilver (SilverHawks (Super7)) Review
Quicksilver
SilverHawks (Super7) (Super7)I haven't been getting Super7's Silverhawks figures a lot, but it's actually good that I've held off a bit on them, since I've been able to get all but one of the ones I have for great discounts. Recently, I managed to score the last figure of wave one for cheap at $30, and it's the one I needed most: Quicksilver, the leader of the good guys.

Like the rest of his team, Quicksilver is almost completely covered in metal, save for his right forearm and face. The helmet looks a bit like a faux hairdo, slicked up in the back. His actual hair, which I'm unsure if it was shaved off or not when he became a cyborg, was more patted down, as opposed to the anime hero-like metal "hair". The likenesses are one of the strongest attributes of the line, and Quicksilver looks dead-on to the show. He doesn't have any additional expression options, leaving him with only the stoic face, but he gets an extra head with the mask down for when he's flying through space. They did a great job with the paint on the heads, with clear work on the face and mask, and unlike Steelheart, he has a natural-looking skin tone.

Jonathan Quick is on the tall side at 7 1/4", but he's supposed to be the tallest, so he's in scale with the others. He's not as bulky as Steelwill, but he still has a fit, muscular build, and the details match the animation well. He even has little pointy talons on his heels, which fits given the hawk motif of the heroes. The body is silver all around, save for the right forearm and thing on his waist, but the lines are all clean, and the finish is consistent. I recall Super7 planning for special reflective paint for these figures to give off a metal look, but the final product gives Quick a flatter paint job, but with a slightly silvery look. It looks fine, but I think he should a little bluish to really match the show.

If you've seen my previous Silverhawks review, then you'll know what the usual articulation set up is. Quicksilver has a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, and swivel biceps, chest, waist, thighs, and calves. The chest is supposed to be a ball joint, but I say swivel cause that's all it does. Just about every figure in the line has the issue of useless chest joints, which makes me wonder why Super7 bothered including said joints to begin with. The rest of the joints work fine, though the pelvis is a little restrictive on the hips, and the extra parts swap easily.

Speaking of extra parts, Quick has four pairs of hands - closed, gripping, grasping, and saluting - and a pair of winged arms with laser ports in the shoulders. I noticed the extra arms pop apart at the biceps with a bit of effort, and you can do some heating on the standard arms to swap parts for different looks. There's also the usual pair of two-piece lasers and a wrist controller that goes onto the left forearm. Lastly, there's Tallyhawk, Quick's robo-hawk buddy that was given to him by Stargazer. Tallyhawk comes in two forms, perched and flying, and both are well-sculpted and feature clean paint. The head rotates on both, and they also get joints for the hips and knees. Neither can clip onto Quicksilver's arms, so you'll need blu-tack or some other adhesive to get him perched.

I got Quicksilver with low expectations knowing how this line's been, but he's actually a pretty solid figure, and is tied with Buzz-Saw for the best of wave one. The chest and hips could move better, but I'm satisfied with how well he turned out. The vac-metal version looks even better, but's he sold out at the regular retailers and I assume eBay prices aren't kind, so I'll just stick to this version.
