Furious Homer (Simpsons (Jakks Pacific)) Review
Furious Homer
Simpsons (Jakks Pacific) (Jakks Pacific)If there's one thing Jakks Pacific can be praised for with their Simpsons line, it's prioritizing major characters in standard outfits over variants. Super7 went too heavy with variants for the Simpson family, not doing any in their standard clothes, not even in ReAction form, and lost the license before they could. In contrast, Jakks only put out three character variants: Bartman, coming shortly after the regular Bart, Vampire Burns, with the confirmation via Amazon that a regular version is in the works, and "Furious" Homer, coming from Season 13's "I Am Furious (Yellow)."

As the name of the figure suggests, Homer's pent-up rage has been unleashed, screaming his head off. The head here is much more expressive than the blank stare the regular version had, with lowered brow, slight squint to the eyes, and mouth wide open. The head also appears more on-model than the regular Homer, with the scalp not being as bulbous. The head is crafted out of various colored plastic pieces, as with the other figures in this line, but the paint where applicable is clean, including on the skin, which I'll discuss shortly.

At 5" tall, Homer has no shirt or shoes on, having been torn off during his rage. He still has his pants, with various tears to them, and the exposed shins are separate pieces held in place by the knee/ankle joints. In the episode, Homer was covered in green paint everywhere put his pants, making him look like the Hulk, and the original concept for the figure would've made him green with rage all over. I assume someone from Disney asked them to make it less Hulk-like (despite owning both him and Homer), so the final result has more of a paint-splattered look. Oddly enough, it's the yellow skin that's painted on rather than the green paint itself. This results in a more greenish hue to the skin, so it's a little off, but the edges are clean, and the body overall is great, with the only apparent reuse being the forearms.

Homer has pretty standard articulation, with swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and knees, hinged elbows, swivel neck and biceps, and ball-jointed hips and ankles. He lacks a waist joint, but that's because of the action feature present with these "premium" figures. Push the button on his back, and the arms raise up, then drop back down once the button is released, making for "smashing" action. I don't like it, due to the fact that it makes the arms harder to pose, and I would've preferred a different feature, like maybe having him turn solid green when exposed to cold water. I assume others, kids particularly, will get a kick out of the feature, and Homer makes up for it with great leg movement.

Another thing present with the premium figures are diorama pieces, and Homer has a multitude of fence parts, including three break-apart fences, and a smaller, solid fence piece. All but one connect together through slits on the sides, and the break-apart feature is there to justify the arm-smashing function. It makes for a great backdrop, and you can rearrange the pieces in any way you like. To further recreate the episode, Homer also comes with a kiddie pool and a bucket of green paint (labeled as such); combine those with the fence and you'll have even more ways to display Angry Dad. Or you can fill up the pool with water and have some of your other toys wade around in it.

With all the Homer outfits made into merch, you'll be surprised to know this is the first ever figure of this specific look (the closest to it beforehand was Playmates' "Ingestible Bulk" from the Bongo comics). While I could do without the arm-smashing feature, everything else about him is great, and he'll go well with the Simpsonsfied Stan Lee NECA made years prior, as well as Playmates' Main Street playset for the perfect photo op.
