Czarface (Czarface (Super7)) Review
Czarface
Czarface (Super7) (Super7)While I can't stand modern rap, due to its incoherent vocals and crap instrumentals, Czarface is an exception. I don't think it's often you get a hip-hop/rap group nowadays, and its pop culture influence and consistently great songs make them stand tall above the rest. Admittedly, I was introduced to it through Super7, who started out with ReAction figures for their mascot before giving him a proper Ultimate. Their track record with music Ultimates has been great as of late, so I was more than happy to get him.

At times, Super7's been able to do some pretty cool packaging, and Czarface is one of the better Ultimates boxes. It's designed after his head, with the upper part of his head serving as the slip cover, and removing it gives the impression he's opening up his mouth to reveal the figure inside. The window does a good job of showing off the contents, and there's only a single twistie to worry about when removing everything.

Czarface's likeness appears to be a combination of a skull and a goblin; he has pointy ears, but the nose and teeth are pretty skeleton-like. The design is carried over well into plastic thanks to Ryan Buckalew, who's sculpted a few prior music Ultimates, and the metallic paint certainly helps highlight the armor (or is he a cyborg?). Our anti-hero comes with three portraits: one neutral, one with the mouth wide open, and one with laser eyes. The usage of clear plastic for the laser effects is good, and making them out of a softer material makes them unlikely to break. The edges of the eyes and teeth on the heads are slightly uneven, but at least there's no bleed.

Standing about 7 1/4" tall, Czarface is primarily silver, aside from some reds and blues. The finish and colors all over are nice and consistent, though the non-silver colors suffer from bleed onto the rest of the body. His arms have an asymmetrical appearance, with the right arm having a spiked gauntlet, while the left one has a blue gauntlet and glove. The abdomen, thighs, and left shoulder are a different shade of red, with black splotchy deco on them, and they're cast in clear plastic, certainly a stand out from the rest of the body. He also wears a cape like any superhero would, albeit a tattered one, and it's not only softgoods, but also wired. The collar of the cape is wired as well, allowing you to adjust it to your liking.

Czarface has plenty of articulation, if not a bit more than usual for Ultimates. He gets a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, swivel biceps and thighs, and ball-jointed chest and waist. Unusually for a Super7 figure, the chest actually works well, with plenty of tilt on the ball, and while the waist doesn't have as much tilt, it works with the chest well. All of the joints move great, and the heads and hands swap easily. Speaking of, he has nine hands to use: two wide open, two closed, two grasping, another set of grasping hands cast in translucent red plastic, and a red left fist, which is the hand he should have instead of the glove. There's also some missiles to plug into the left forearm, one being a single missile, ready to fire, and some dual missiles. They plug in easily, but tend to pop out easily as well.

How is it that Super7 manages to consistently nail music-themed Ultimates? They look nicer than usual, pose better than usual, and basically have better quality and more effort than more than half of their other Ultimates. Czarface is no exception, taking an already toyetic design and making him really fun to play with, with the metallic paint and fabric cape adding more to his appearance. There's a "Czar Noir" variant coming out soon for those interested, and I may get it, but I'll probably wait for discounts on it. I would love to see a vac metal version now that S7 is capable of it, but I imagine that'll be a con exclusive, so fingers crossed.
