Wakko Animaniacs (Super7) (Super7)It's been a while since I got anything from Super7's Animaniacs Ultimates line, and considering how there's only five figures in the line, it shouldn't have taken me this long to complete the collection. Still, it's nice to finally add onto it with the younger Warner brother, Wakko. Wakko gets an expression fitting for the character, with tilted eyes and tongue hanging out, and his head is a solid hunk of a soft, vinyl-like material. The paint on it is pretty decent, but there is some fuzziness where the white face meets the black far and eyes. He gets an alternate head with an "ooohh" expression, but this one is also wearing a gladiator helmet. Don't recognize it? It comes from the episode "The Big Candy Store," where he and his siblings show up riding on top of a bus like a chariot just for the heck of it. I definitely like this specific appearance, but I would've been equally happy to get this face with the regular hat. As the only one of the siblings to wear clothes on his upper body, Wakko has a light blue shirt with baggy neck, and the bottom seems to be pulled up a bit as well. His heads are a bit oversized on the body, but it's not something I mind too much in person, since the sculpt looks great otherwise. The paint, outside of that fuzziness with the head I mentioned, looks great, and the colors pop very well. He stands around 5" tall, which puts him out of scale with most other Ultimates. These figures are usually in a 7" scale, but Wakko stands out of that range, and he's really only meant to scale with his siblings. I would've loved for these to be more properly scaled, but I can live. Wakko gets decent articulation with a ball-jointed head, hips, and tail, along with swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. I want to say the waist is a swivel, but it gets a very small bit of tilt, meaning it could be on a ball peg with little clearance. The elbows are pretty bad, unfortunately, as the joint is on the upper arm meaning there's only rotation at the forearm, and the hinges can't even bend 90 degrees. Still, you should be able to get good poses with what's available, and both heads have ball-jointed ears, helping to add a bit more expressiveness to the figure. Moving on to accessories, Wakko gets a big one in the form of a blackboard with the U.S. map on it, allowing you to reenact "Wakko's America." The board measures about 7" long and 6" tall, and can be flipped around like a real blackboard. The fiddle and bow are also included to make for a better display with it. For cartoon hijinks, Wakko gets his mallet and a stick of dynamite (a little bigger than the one Dot has). In addition to the gladiator head, Wakko gets a crooked tail and nine different hands: two relaxed, two splayed, a pair to hold the bow and fiddle, a mallet-gripping right, a dynamite-gripping left, and a pointing right. All of the extra parts swap easily, but I had a bit of trouble with the mallet, as the wrist isn't tight enough to hold still with it in there, even though it's hollow plastic. Wakko is a lot more fun than I thought he would be, thanks to a great aesthetic and plenty of fun accessories. Better elbows would've gone a long way with him, but I'm happy with what he has, and look forward to grabbing Yakko to finish the collection. - 9/9/23 by RMaster007 |
