Transformers (Super7) Reviews
Alligaticon
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007
With the vast amount of characters in the Transformers universe, there's plenty to choose from when it comes to toys. Hasbro's ongoing Legacy line takes cues from nearly every adaptation of the franchise, but with Super7, they've stuck to just G1. They've done a few deep-cut characters, but the most noteworthy one is Alligaticon. For those unfamiliar with Alligaticon, he comes from the 1980s series' "City of Steel" episode, in which the Decepticons plot to take over New York. Optimus Prime tries to infiltrate their base, but is captured and subsequently disassembled, and most of his parts are reconstructed into a robot alligator. Hey, it was an 80s cartoon, they were allowed to get silly and weird. Despite being the first robot alligator in the franchise, Skullcruncher was the first who...[See More]
Tracks (G1 Cartoon)
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.10 stars by RMaster007
One thing that bothered me about Super7's Transformers Ultimates line was the lack of major Autobots. Optimus Prime and Grimlock were expected, but not Tracks, since he's not as mainstream as the likes of Bumblebee, Ironhide, and others. I guess S7 was satisfied with just doing the Autobots in ReAction form, and Tracks didn't receive a figure like that, hence why he got the Ultimate treatment. Another figure in the line lifting their design from the old Sunbow cartoon, Tracks is red-faced, but not in an embarrassed way, rather in the fact that his head is red and white. The head is fully painted with a matte finish, and although the edges aren't clean, I appreciate the effort. He has a stoic expression, since Transformers then weren't super expressive, though he comes with an alternate...[See More]
Wreck-Gar
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.15 stars by RMaster007
1986 was an important year for Transformers, as not only did the franchise receive its first feature film, but introduced some new characters, albeit at the cost of characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron getting scrapped or reformatted. Everyone knows the likes of Hot Rod and Galvatron, but who can forget Wreck-Gar, the Junkion whose vocabulary is sourced entirely from television? Not Super7, hence why he's the only movie-introduced character to get an Ultimate. Wreck-Gar may be one of the few Transformers to have facial hair, sporting a thin mustache and beard, along with the antennae on top of his head. It's a pretty good likeness of his cartoon design, with all the proper details and clean paint, but his face is a bit more yellow than it should he. I like how his face isn't just...[See More]
Soundwave (G1)
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.60 stars by RMaster007
I think it's clear now that Super7's Transformers Ultimates line is done for. We haven't seen any waves go up for pre-order since the end of 2022, and with complaints about the quality and articulation, alongside most of the figures having gone on sale, Super7 may have felt the line wasn't worth continuing. On a more positive note, they at least gave us fan-favorite Soundwave. Soundwave has a rather unique head design (though not as unique as Shockwave), with no visible mouth and red, visor-like eyes. It gives him bit more of an ominous vibe than the other Decepticons, and Four Horsemen did a great job matching his animated appearance. Back then, Transformer designs weren't consistent across media, let alone toys, and Soundwave's alternate heads reflect that. One of them originates from...[See More]
Starscream
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.65 stars by RMaster007
After his (well-deserved) death in the G1 movie, Starscream somehow returned as a ghost robot, possessing various Decepticons in plans of restoring his mortal body. He eventually succeeded, and was last seen helplessly tumbling through space. Because of that, it's no surprise that Super7 would follow up their Ultimate Ghost of Starscream with his still-online version. The benefit of having already done a Starscream in this line before allows Super7 to simply reuse the ghost mold, just changing the paint and plastic. When covering the previous version, I said Starscream's head looked off, but it's more spot-on here. It's possible they touched up on it a bit, but I compared the two and saw no real difference, so I guess it just looks nicer here. Like before, Starscream has three heads to...[See More]
Megatron (G2)
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.30 stars by RMaster007
It was the mid-90s, a few years before Beast Wars, and Hasbro needed a way to keep their Transformers brand relevant. So they created "Generation 2," characterized by bold, colorful toys and an edgy, action-packed comic. While not many talk about it, it's been a guilty pleasure for some fans, including me. And Super7 covering all bases of G1 for their Ultimates line meant they needed at least one G2 thing, so they did Megatron, a wave after his G1 counterpart. G2 Megs looked drastically different from his predecessor, starting with the head. His helmet was flatter on the top and wider on the sides, and his face was blockier. This is how the toy looked, and Super7 (with Four Horsemen's help) did a pretty accurate recreation of it. He gets two other heads with different designs, such as a...[See More]
Grimlock
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.60 stars by RMaster007
While characters like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron are getting the most merch, Grimlock is just as popular, mainly because he's a giant robotic dinosaur. How is that not cool? Recently, Robosen put out an electronic Grimlock that can transform on its own, be controlled with your phone, and even has his original voice actor from the G1 cartoon providing new dialogue. For over $1000, it's too rich for my blood, but there's much cheaper Grimmys out there, such as the Super7 Ultimate. Normally, I wouldn't bring up the box here since it's the same uniform style all figures in the line have, but Grimlock's deserves special mention as it's utterly massive. His package is 13" tall, 14 1/2" long, and 6 5/8" deep, which can make room for it difficult if you plan on keeping it. Everything...[See More]
Megatron
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 3.70 stars by RMaster007
It's been a good long while since we got the first wave of Super7's Transformers Ultimates, and after waiting what seemed like forever, the second wave is finally showing, albeit through Big Bad Toy Store first. The big player of this wave is Megatron, who I picked up as soon as I saw he was in-stock. Like with wave one, the sculpt for Megatron is done by Four Horsemen, Super7's usual go-to for Ultimates. S7 doesn't bother to credit them or anyone specific for these figures, so you wouldn't know unless you looked at the Horsemen's site. Anyways, Megatron's head sculpt is spot-on to how he looked in the G1 cartoon, sporting his usual expression showing how displeased he is with you. There's two other heads sporting a sinister laughing expression, one with a weird helmet, and the other...[See More]
Ghost of Starscream
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.40 stars by RMaster007
It took me this long, but I finally completed the first wave of Transformers Ultimates. It's a good thing I waited, too, cause I was able to get this for cheap off Entertainment Earth. Starscream, the only other A-lister in the wave alongside Optimus, stands around 7 3/4" tall, or just 7 1/2" if we're not counting those things on the sides of his head. The default head has a smirk on it, definitely reflective of his personality. If that doesn't suit you, there's an extra head with a neutral look. Both heads are pretty off, however, looking more compressed than they should. Surprisingly, Super7 threw in a third head which isn't based off the cartoon, but rather comes from the original toy. It's a pretty nice recreation, though it seems a little small on the body, and I'm not sure if it's...[See More]
Bombshell
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
The first wave of Super7’s Transformers Ultimates is giving us quite the varied line-up, with the face of the franchise, a regular character in a specific variant, a lesser-known character, and a recognizable character in an unrecognizable version. The last of those is the Insecticon Bombshell, but his figure here is based off of his “Action Masters” figure instead of his regular design. We already got Banzai-Tron in this wave, why not give him a friend from his original subline? The Action Masters design for Bombshell seems to have more in common with his original toy design than his cartoon design. The torso is the most similar aspect, and the mouthplate is something shared across the three versions of him. I could go on and on comparing the different ways he looked, so let’s just cut...[See More]
