Shredder
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.55 stars by RMaster007
Although it's been going at a slower pace than the other lines, NECA's TMNT Adventures line has proven just as strong. It's given us more than a couple of unique characters and designs, a good chunk of which never got figures before, and the great quality and work put into them certainly help. The latest release is Shredder himself, because the big bad had to join the line sometime, and although he's Walmart-only for right now, he's very easy to find in-store. Since the Archie TMNT comic was adapted from the animated show running at the time, most of the existing characters' designs weren't changed all that much for it. Shredder's build is the same as the toon, but the colors are different. His helmet is white, and the mask is blue, both with painted comic-like shine on them. The lines...[See More]
Cryin' Houn' (Stump Wrestling)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
"Mah name… mah name is Cryin' Houn'! Mah first name, being the name before mah last name, is Cryin'! Mah name, taken together… mah name is Cryin' Houn'! Mah name is Cry-" Shut up already. When NECA revealed their Stump Wrestling Turtles, it was clear to fans that we'd get some complementary characters. They put out Leatherhead, but he fought Ace Duck, not the turtles. Rather, they fought the strong, four-armed (and annoying) Cryin' Houn'. Unlike the other recent Adventures figures, Houn' was first to market at Walmart rather than Target, but he's showing up at the latter now, and you should be able to find the other wrestling figures with no issue. Cryin' Houn' resembles a big, ugly dog, hence his name. While his debut issue was drawn by Jim Lawson, Houn's sculpt, done by Tony Cipriano,...[See More]
Mondo Gecko
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
As spaced out as NECA's TMNT Adventures releases have been, they've been making up for it by putting out much as possible within short bursts. Case in point, we've recently gotten a four-pack and four new singles, one of which is Mondo Gecko, because the more Mutanimals, the better. Mondo's Adventures design seems to be a combination of his original toy and toon designs, with its own unique attributes, such as yellow eyes instead of red, and long, shaggy hair that would make his counterparts jealous. He has a calm, "hey duuuuude" expression, showing off his braces, lifted from his toy design, and the lined brows and lips seem to be toy-inspired as well. Tomasz Rozejowski provided the sculpt for our lizard friend, which is based off Ken Mitchroney's style, like usual for the line. His...[See More]
Leatherhead (Stump Wrestling)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
After a good variety of characters, it seems as if NECA's TMNT Adventures line is currently focused on the contestants of the intergalactic Stump Wrestling ring. We got the Turtles themselves, but there's also Cryin' Houn' and Leatherhead, both of whom are hitting mass-market retailers now, in addition to two upcoming wrestlers, El Mysterio (just Houn' in another costume) and Ace Duck. I haven't gotten Houn' yet, and the $50 price is making me hesitant to get him, but Leatherhead you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding at Target. Often times, Adventures had a very cartoony look, and not even the '87 show at its best animation quality could compare. Mitchroney was one of those "cartoony" artists for the comics, and as with most of the figures we've seen so far, Leatherhead adapts...[See More]
Stump Wrestling 4-Pack
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
Once NECA began making figures from the TMNT Adventures comics, the four brother themselves were inevitable. But rather than doing regular versions, they went the extra mile and produced them in their iconic Stump Wrestling outfits. We saw early prototypes at SDCC last year, and this year's show presented finalized, articulated samples. Amazingly, they got released barely a month later, showing up now at Target. They're pretty easy to find and are arriving in large amounts, but I can see a mass release happening soon. Since this is a four-pack, the turtles come in a long window box, and a very attractive-looking one at that. There's plenty of illustrations all around, from both Adventures artist Ken Mitchroney and TMNT fan artist turned NECA illustrator Aaron Hazouri. The turtles are...[See More]
Bellybomb
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
NECA run's with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license has given us plenty of firsts when it comes to characters, doing a variety of allies and villains that haven't gotten figures before. They've done the first official Jagwar figure, the first Dreadmon figure, and now, the first Bellybomb figure. If you aren't familiar with him, he was a character made solely for the Archie TMNT Adventures comics (though the 2012 cartoon had a character clearly based off him), being present in three issues aiding Krang in his evil plans, and was introduced in the same issue as Slash. After all these years, this alien menace finally has some merch. I usually talk about the head first when it comes to figures, but in Bellybomb's case, he's almost all head. His name comes from the fact that his mouth is...[See More]
Synja Patrol Bot
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Last Ronin
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
When NECA first announced they'd be doing figures from The Last Ronin, I didn't expect them to go beyond the titular character, but now it's clear they're doing as much as possible with the license. Recently, we saw the release of the next figure in the line, the Synja, which is basically TLR's version of the robotic Foot Soldier from animated media. The packaging illustration was done by Ben Bishop, and it certainly looks nice, depicting three Synjas with different heads. The bio on the back is the same text from prior releases, and I would've preferred something unique for each character. This is the third figure in the line (fourth if you count the Target-exclusive Ronin repaint), but is numbered sixth on the spine. The art on the other side is meant to go with the mural began by the...[See More]
Slash
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
When NECA announced a return to the Mirage TMNT figure line, nobody expected them to do more comic figures than just the Turtles' origins. In addition to The Last Ronin, Archie Comics' TMNT Adventures gets its own new figure line. As far as I'm concerned, Adventures rarely, if ever, got figures, so this is kind of a big deal. And kicking this line off is Slash, the monstrous turtle who's had prior NECA experience. The packaging is similar the current Mirage line, with a trapezoidal window box outfitted with illustrations. These illustrations are provided by Adventures artist Ken Mitchroney, and the packaging motif as a whole gives off a vintage comic vibe. The one thing I don't like is the overabundance of plastic ties. Would it kill NECA to cut down on those? The last two Slash figures...[See More]
Jagwar
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.65 stars by RMaster007
While I haven't had any really huge success with NECA and Target's Haul-a-thon event, the few figures I have been able to get from it have been pretty great, including the last Adventures figure for now: Jagwar. Like the other two recent figures, Jagwar is sculpted by Tony Cipriano and Kushwara Studios, and the head… well, it's okay. The eyes come off a bit too cartoony for me; they looked fine on Dreadmon, but here they kinda pushed it. There is an alternate head with narrower eyes, and that one definitely looks nicer. The hairs on the top of his head, along with the cheek fur, stand out too much, and comparing it to the packaging's illustrations along with panels from the source material, I doubt he was ever drawn like this. Both heads get a hinged jaw, which is a cool touch, and it...[See More]
Dreadmon
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) - Adventures
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
While inspired by the TMNT cartoon going on at the time, Archie's Adventures comic didn't take long to stray away from merely adapting cartoon episodes and start making new stories, which also led to new characters. Sure, Man Ray was already in the toy line as Ray Fillet, but names such as Dreadmon were created specifically for the Archie universe. Another team-up between Tony Cipriano and Kushwara Studios, Dreadmon's sculpt is based off the issues penciled by Ken Mitchroney. He has some pretty wild hair going on, with a few small skulls for accessories, and he has an earring on his left ear, but mine has some excess plastic on it, though I got if off using some small scissors. The expression looks great, with cartoony eyes and a hinged jaw. Standing around the 6 1/2" mark, Dreadman is...[See More]
