Sectaurs Reviews
Mantor and Raplor
Sectaurs (Coleco) - Beasts
Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face
It's that time again: old c-list toys for the win! Mantor is the designated lore repository of the story, a master of both martial arts and infodumping. Former advisor to the king, he's gone rogue along with the rest of the main cast, in hopes of heading off a war the authorities refuse to address. As a Keeper, he also knows how to operate the Hyves, should they find any; given that the last time they were activated, they turned everything into bugs, I'm not sure how far to trust hundreds of years' worth of oral history in regards to super-science instructions. I can see why the Keepers have to operate in secret. Having said all that, this guy stands out for a few reasons: nobody else is rocking a half-monotone color palette, nor a full beard. The exoskeleton is a delightful metallic...[See More]
Skulk and Trancula
Sectaurs (Coleco) - Beasts
Rated 4.60 stars by Karl T. Face
Sectaurs had oddly complex characters. Take Skulk here: the sniveling, plug-ugly toady that often accompanies cartoon villains, he's secretly well versed in political intrigue, and also an excellent scout and trapper. Anyway, dude's roughly the same height as anyone else in the line, but with beastlier extremities and the only fully insectile face in the line. The balljoints at the hips have far better range than the shoulders, but that's how this line rolls. The swivel neck and hinged knees round things out. Paint is great as always, with the facial features picked out neatly, and some really nice airbrushing on the limbs. The real draw with these guys is the...[See More]
Pinsor and Battle Beetle
Sectaurs (Coleco) - Beasts
Rated 4.50 stars by Karl T. Face
While I was hoping to find Skulk, I did manage to luck out with this fellow, and apart from a niggling issue or two, it didn't disappoint. So, Pinsor is the old warhorse of the main cast. Every good action-adventure ensemble needs one, and he looks the part with his barrel-chested build and impressive mustache. Articulation is Sectaur-standard: ball-joint shoulders and hips, hinged knees and swivel neck. The paint is on-point, with no thin apps or overspill. I always loved the metallic tones and often-subtle airbrushing on these things. Accessories are as good as any from the line, consisting of an axe, pistol, saber and particularly large shield. These lead into my only gripe with him, as his three-fingered hands are held just shy of palms-upward for some reason. Rather than catching...[See More]
