Batman - Animated Series (McFarlane) Reviews
Alfred Pennyworth
Batman - Animated Series (McFarlane) - Basic Series
Rated 4.15 stars by RMaster007
The city of Gotham isn't just masked vigilantes and an overabundance of villains and corrupt businessmen, there's normal citizens as well, such as Alfred Pennyworth, the faithful butler of both Batman and his secret identity Bruce Wayne. He doesn't get a lot of figures, but DC Collectibles did make one, coming from the animated series. Only catch was that he only came with a big Batcave playset, and as you can guess, it goes for a lot nowadays. Thankfully, McFarlane came along and reissued Alfred on his own for a very reasonable price. Most of the Animated figures were done by Irene Matar, but Alfred was done by Tony Cipriano (McFarlane doesn't credit their sculptors, but DCC did). The head sculpt is certainly nice, with the raised eyebrow expression. It befits Alfred perfectly, since he...[See More]
Batman (Blind as a Bat)
Batman - Animated Series (McFarlane) - Basic Series

McFarlane's been doing well when it comes to DC, especially now that they're re-releasing older DC Collectibles figures. I got the first wave of their BTAS reissues/redecos, and while I found them mostly underwhelming, they were enjoyable. The second wave came out a while back, and I found it much better, especially since it has not one, but two new figures that weren't in the original line. One of the new figures is another version of Batman, based off the episode "Blind as a Bat." In the episode, Bruce Wayne was rendered blind by the Penguin, so he has this special headwear made for him to aid his vision. The helmet is spot on to the episode, complete with a cord (shame it can't go into the belt like in the show), though the shape of the chin is still inaccurate, being closer to TNBA...[See More]
Robin
Batman - Animated Series (McFarlane) - Basic Series
Rated 3.95 stars by RMaster007
While I could care less for McFarlane's DC Multiverse line nowadays, I'm happy with their re-releases of the DC Direct Batman Animated line, bringing back older figures with new extras, and there's a second build-a-figure wave on the way, along with New Adventures figures. I've just now completed the first BAF wave with the other half of characters, Batman's sidekick Robin and the tragic villain Mr. Freeze. Let's start with Robin first. He's been put out a couple times now, and McFarlane's re-release is the third or fourth time we've seen him. The sculpt is pretty nice and spot-on to the show's style, with a confident expression and one side of the cape draped over the shoulder more, but the rubbery material prevents it from hindering movement. They also did a good job with his hair, a...[See More]
Scarecrow
Batman - Animated Series (McFarlane) - Basic Series
Rated 4.35 stars by RMaster007
Batman has gathered himself quite the rogues' gallery over the years, with a variety of unique villains for him to face off against. We all know faces like the Joker, the Penguin, Two-Face, amongst others, and we certainly can't forget the terrifying Scarecrow. In his first appearance in the 90s animated series, "Nothing to Fear," the Scarecrow had a rather goofy look, but his second appearance, "Fear of Victory," updated him to look more sinister. The regular look is included with this figure, and it's nicely captured, with a good expression and some decent paint, but it did notice a few areas of clumping or inconsistent coloring. And if you want Scarecrow with the mask off, a Jonathan Crane head is included. I like this one as well, primarily due to the equally sinister face, and much...[See More]

Batman - Animated Series (McFarlane) - Basic Series

I am vengeance, I am the night, I… am Batman! For many, there's no denying that the 90s Batman cartoon was the one that defined the character for generations to come. The noir theme combined with great stories and casting made it a show that holds up well today. It's gotten plenty of figures, including an expansive line by DC Direct/Collectibles before they went under. McFarlane Toys has since revived the brand with both re-releases of select figures and new ones, but now they're putting out a newly-sculpted line of characters. It seems to be Target-exclusive, but it shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of them. The figures come packaged in mostly-red window boxes with a city background, along with stock art and a cross-sell on the back. It's simple, but it suits the license well. While...[See More]
