Astrotrain Transformers - Classics (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1 Having never owned the original Astrotrain, or any triplechanger, I was happy when I heard they were making him. While not thrilled by the paint job it is a very good tribute to his G1 form. He has his robot form, a space shuttle form, and the train form. Thankfully he isn't a steam engine anymore. Never did understand why he was a steam engine anyhow when he could have at least picked a sleak 50's steam engine form. He is fairly easy to transform ocnce the instructions make sense. The sculpt on his head is good, looking like his G1 form, but the paint is rather bland. Overall the paint is the biggest letdown on this figure. He is molded in white with the most basic of paint applications. I would have liked to have seen maybe something more like his G1 colors or something more...[See More]
Scrapmetal (Red) Transformers - Cybertron (Hasbro) - Scout Class Rated 2.00 stars by somebody1 I was fascinated by these little buggers in the show. Transformers that were barely sentient and were considered to be a pest like ants. Sadly the figure is as annoying to us as the Scrapmetals are to the Transformers. It seemed to be an after thought to make these figures. They are mostly molded in color, a red or the orange variant, with other colors thrown in. The articulation is sloppy thanks to the complicated transformation procedure and it is easy to get stuck transformering the figure if you aren't careful. The sculpt of the head is very basic and features the barest of paint jobs. You get no weapons aside from the tail weapon that flips out. The "vehicle" mode is the most interesting as it is some kind of 4 legged mecha. In the cartoon one of the characters rebuilds one into a...[See More]
Starscream Transformers - Cybertron (Hasbro) - Supreme Class Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1 This is a monster of a figure. It represents Starscream's giant form in the Cybertron tv series. It is pretty well detailed, basically being just a blown up version of his normal cybertron form, and most of it is molded in color so paint is limited. The articulation isn't as good as it could have been compared to other Cybertron figures like Primus though. The crown is a nice touch and an interesting nod to the G1 starscream crown from the 1986 movie. Transforming the figure is pretty easy as it is a very basic figure when you get down to it. I would have liked them to have maybe gone a bit more over the top with the crown by adding the cape and shoulder pads G1 style. There are no weapons aside from those built into him. Again he would have benefited with more weaponry. The sculpting on...[See More]
Tifa Lockheart Final Fantasy VII (Play Arts) - Advent Children: Vol 1 Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1 Tifa's changed a lot since the game took place. Gone is the tank top and massive jugs. She now sports an odd outfit that seems trendy and a bit like it would look good at a rave. Personally I like the game style better and think she'd have looked better in that style. She comes with multiple hands including some with and without gloves. She is very posable compared to the other figures, or at least the only one I've tried to put into martial arts poses. As for customizability I wish I knew. My ex made off with my spare Tifa to "rescue" her from the x-acto knife. Once again I think that including some sort of accessories in addition to other hands would be interesting whether it is a materia or even a photo of her and Cloud. I also would have liked to have seen maybe one of the hands...[See More]
Sephiroth Final Fantasy VII (Play Arts) - Advent Children: Vol 1 Rated 5.00 stars by somebody1 Possibly one of the more interesting bad guys in the last few years of videogaming. Sephiroth is a genetically engineered soldier who loses his mind and tries to destroy the planet with the remains of his mother. This is a large figure, larger than any of the other other FF 7 figures, as Sephiroth is like 6'6 or somthing in the game. He comes with multiple hands and his signature huge sword. The articulation is okay, as is with most playarts figures, and he is slightly different than the other versions of him Playarts has made. He is also one of the most expensive figures thanks to his popularity selling for up to $35. The sculpting is good and accurate thanks to what I assume is them using the CG models to machine the molds. All figures should have this quality though. I have yet to see...[See More]
Cloud Strife (Fenrir Bike) Final Fantasy VII (Play Arts) - Advent Children: Deluxe Figures Rated 5.00 stars by somebody1 I skipped over the basic Cloud AC figure and went straight for the big boy. The Cloud included is the same as the basic one. He is moderately posable and is a fair representation of his CG form in the movie. He comes with a single sword, which is a bit of a disapointment as is the fact that the bike doesn't have a fold out rack to hold swords as a sort of display. The bike itself is the real star of this set. The bike is cast metal and plastic with rubber tires and working shocks. It is a very nice addition to any FF7 collection. Mine arrived with a piece broken but was easily fixed with some superglue and is barely noticable. The main side effect of this set as it's huge. The FF7 figures are already on the large side and this is no different aside from taking up room height wise you also...[See More]
Bumblebee Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1 In the package he looks slightly deformed but after taking him out he unfolds a bit to look more normal. He is nice looking figure, has better articulation than the last movie figure he had, and looks good in car mode even though he seems to have a new hood. The sculpting is pretty good but for once I'd like to see more accessories on him such as the mask he has in the films that flips down. I had his arm cannon pop off while coming out of the package but it easily reattatches. This cannon is the only weapon featured on this version of him and fires an energy blast/missile. Transformation is annoying as with most TFs anymore and made worse by the fact that parts like to pop off of him if you don't get it quite right. While the pop-off parts is a nice feature when it comes to not breaking...[See More]
Megatron Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen (Hasbro) - Leader Class Rated 3.00 stars by somebody1 Having recently seen the Voyager class version of this figure I feel cheated. Much like the previous version of his leader class body this Megatron is low on articulation. The robot mode features some moving armor plates and a "I am Megatron" audio clip. The paint is rather bland and can stand to have some major reworking done to him. The tank mode is large and slightly awkward, being totally different looking than the Voyager version, and this mode too could use with some detailing work. I have to admit I mostly bought him for the tank mode as he is basically the same in robot mode aside from his arms, one of which is pathetically short and stubby. Having gotten him out of the package it is hard to believe he costs nearly as much as a Master Piece Transformer with half the details and...[See More]
Optimus Prime (War Within) Transformers - Titanium (Hasbro) - 6" Figures Rated 3.50 stars by somebody1 I found this an interesting figure not having seen the newer Generation 1 comics and the new history of Optimus Prime. The figure features Optimus Prime right after he gained the matrix and stopped being a clerk named Optronix. The figure has issues with the knees not bending without being modified, the arms like to pop off, and the paint was badly applied to mine with it flaking in several spots. Like all the large titaniums it seems that the molding process wasn't perfected as there are gaps where the pieces are fitted together. It is in his cybertronian truck mode where he is at his best. It is a mode that slightly hints at Rodimus Prime's truck mode with the window design and curved front end. A trailer of some sort would have been a nice addition. The figure has a lot of promise for...[See More]
