Matthew Rider comes from a dystopic future ruled by Monarch, a former superhero who killed all the others. Rider makes his way to one of Monarch's time travel experiments, and becomes Waverider, a being who can travel to the past and, with a touch, see the present day superheroes' futures to find out which one will become Monarch and stop him.
